AMERIPEN Applauds House Energy and Commerce Committee Advancement of the PACK Act

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 16, 2026 — AMERIPEN today applauded the House Energy and Commerce Committee for advancing the Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act (H.R. 6832). The Committee voted to report the legislation favorably to the House, positioning it for further consideration by the House of Representatives.

The PACK Act would establish a federal framework governing recyclable, compostable, and reusable claims on consumer packaging. Covered claims would be verified by accredited independent third-party certification and subject to Federal Trade Commission oversight. Companies would retain the choice of whether to make these claims; the federal requirements would apply when they choose to do so. The PACK Act aims to create greater consistency for covered claims while enhancing consumer protection by giving the FTC the tools it needs to enforce misleading packaging claims. “Today’s action is an exciting step forward for the PACK Act and the broad coalition working to advance it,” said Lynn Dyer, President of AMERIPEN. “AMERIPEN has been proud to lead the PACK Act Coalition and bring together organizations across the packaging value chain around a shared goal: giving consumers packaging claims they can trust while providing businesses with greater consistency across the country. A patchwork of state requirements adds costs at every step—from packaging and production to inventory and distribution. In a national marketplace, those costs ripple through the supply chain and put added pressure on what consumers pay at the checkout counter. The PACK Act helps protect consumers by creating a consistent national framework that supports clear, reliable packaging claims while reducing unnecessary costs.

AMERIPEN thanks Rep. Randy Weber for his leadership on H.R. 6832 and will continue working with lawmakers, PACK Act Coalition members, and stakeholders across the packaging value chain as the legislation moves through the House.

With Full Committee consideration now complete, attention turns to the next stage for the PACK Act.
