AMERIPEN WELCOMES PACK ACT ADVANCEMENT THROUGH SUBCOMMITTEE MARKUP

Press Releases

Subcommittee action moves federal packaging-claims legislation forward in the House

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 1, 2026 — AMERIPEN, the leading policy and advocacy organization representing the entire packaging value chain, today welcomed the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade’s action to advance the Packaging and Claims Knowledge (PACK) Act (H.R. 6832), moving the legislation forward following Subcommittee markup.

The PACK Act would establish a federal framework for voluntary recyclable, compostable, and reusable claims on consumer packaging. The legislation is designed to help ensure that consumers receive accurate, understandable, and trustworthy information while reducing the conflicting state requirements that can make it difficult for businesses to communicate consistently across state lines.

By advancing the PACK Act, the Subcommittee has completed an important step in the House legislative process and positioned the measure for further consideration.

“We are encouraged by the PACK Act’s continued progression through the legislative process and appreciate the Subcommittee’s work to move this important legislation forward,” said Lynn Dyer, President of AMERIPEN. “Consumers should be able to trust that recyclable, compostable, and reusable claims are accurate and dependable wherever a product is sold. The PACK Act provides a practical federal framework built on consumer protection, independent third-party certification, and greater consistency across state lines. AMERIPEN thanks Rep. Weber for his leadership and will continue working with lawmakers to support the legislation as it moves forward in Congress.”

In the weeks ahead, AMERIPEN will continue its outreach to members of Congress, PACK Act coalition partners, and other stakeholders across the packaging value chain to expand bipartisan support for the PACK Act and demonstrate the benefits of consistent national requirements for recyclable, compostable, and reusable packaging claims.
